Trump’s Golden Pager
Prime Minister Netanyahu’s gift of a gold plated replica of the pagers used to kill and maim thousands of people in Lebanon in September 2024, has got to be the most grotesque present ever given by a visiting head of state to a sitting president. I’m still scratching my head on if this gift is an inside joke between two friends or a FAFO reminder that he better keep his campaign promises to his Zionist donors. The only thing missing is a watermark of AIPAC’s logo emblazoned on the front plaque.
The optics of it are wrong on so many levels. These pagers just didn’t kill members of Hezbollah but also disabled many innocent bystanders as well, including children who are now walking around with either one or two eyes missing. For President Trump to accept it, has a lot to say about his morals and puts into question his efforts of wanting to be seen as a peacemaker.
As tacky as the gift is, which looks worse than a trophy a kid receives at an end-of-season sports celebration, it really is a side issue in light of the comments Trump made during the press conference following their meeting. That he would like to evacuate and demolish what’s left of Gaza and turn it into the “Riviera of the Middle East”. Funny how that statement falls in line with his son-in-law Jared Kushner’s view of Gaza as well, from a statement he made in February 2024.
Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s former White House adviser and his son-in-law, praised the “very valuable” potential of Gaza’s “waterfront property,” suggesting that Israel should remove civilians while it “cleans up” the area.
This all sounds like the same type of rhetoric Trump leveled on Canada and Mexico recently in his threat to levy a 25% tariff on all exports to the U.S. It’s all part of his negotiating tactic, so to speak. Talk tough to get the other side of the negotiating table thinking and take him seriously. But I think his rhetoric goes much deeper, and he is definitely serious when it comes to Israel. Remember when he moved the US embassy to Jerusalem? I’m sure there are secret blueprints for the construction of the third temple stashed somewhere in his oval office desk as well.
For someone who is the leader of one of the most powerful nations on earth to suggest that a people should voluntarily leave their homeland and let the US take it over and develop it into a mecca for the elite, is incredible. Palestine is a sovereign state recognized by 75% of member countries of the United Nations. Of course, the United States is not one of those countries and will veto any and all attempts for Palestine to become a full UN member. They are certainly not for a two state solution.
The ink is barely dry on the January 15th ceasefire and the Trump administration has already signed a seven billion dollar weapons deal for Israel and has rescinded a hold on providing two-thousand pound bombs to the IDF. The same bombs that are used to kill Gazans as they are sleeping in their makeshift tents. Then there is his recent sanctions on the International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defense minister, Gallant, for the genocide they have been waging on the people of Gaza.
All these actions, in little more than two weeks since taking office, are signals that Trump is not a president who is serious about peace in the region. His loyalties clearly lie with shielding and protecting Israel under all circumstances and he will ensure that the United States fight tooth and nail to maintain the status quo of the Zionist regime. A regime that continues to expand its borders, not just into Palestine, but into neighboring countries such as Syria.
One can only wonder where this is all leading to, since nothing has changed as far as the US stance on Palestine. If anything, it has been made even more loud and clear that the only solution is a one state solution where all of Palestine is handed over to Israel under the protection of the United States military.
What started with the Balfour declaration of 1917, establishing a home for the Jewish people in Palestine, is drawing nearer to its final objective as the rest of the world’s leaders standby and watch.
Just to be sure, though, if anything does go sideways for President Trump in his mission to develop all the promised land for the chosen people, he has clear instructions on how to use the golden pager.
