The, er, Duke and Duchess of
have announced their intention to step down as senior royals while retaining their titles and continue to represent the Queen and the Crown in the world.
However, as prominent members of the Royal Family, they could still be protected by taxpayers-funded security, which has so far cost £600,000 a year. Scotland Yard is understood to have planned a review of the Sussexes’ security arrangements following their statement and likely change of status.
One senior source told the Evening Standard: “Royal Protection by armed Metropolitan Police officers is mandated by the Home Office.
“If the Sussexes intend to live abroad, and not just carry out international official visits abroad, it will involve far more resources.
the Sussexes announced on their newly-created website sussexroyal.com they want to remain at Frogmore Cottage, despite being a property of the Queen.
The cottage in Windsor, on the grounds of Frogmore House and just a 10-minute drive away from Windsor Castle, has been refurbished between the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 using £2.3million of taxpayer’s money.
They will never be financially independent, they will always be relying on the loan of a jet from a friend etc in addition to a continuing allowance...
So much for being financially INDEPENDENT! UK taxpayers will still pay Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's '£600,000 security and £130,000 travel costs' while they will get £2.3m-a-year from Prince Charles' Duchy
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have pledged to become 'financially independent' - but critics say this is a fallacy while they demand taxpayer-funded security, travel, accommodation and £2.3million each year from his father's royal estate.
The plan has been called 'ill thought through' because by keeping their titles, royal duties, Windsor home and lavish lifestyle they will continue to drain public funds - even if they move to California or Canada.
Reactions to this woke nonsense are understandable.
Meghan and Harry’s decision to ‘step back’ blasted by readers – ‘Do not expect us to pay!’
What a pair of entitled wasters. Either they're in the firm, or they aren't. And if they aren't, all the titles and allowances should stop.
Let them eat [financially independent] cake.
