Mandatory Mask Bylaw

I have to admit, on this the first day of the mandatory bylaw to wear a mask in public places in my city, I caved in! Well, kind of, sort of.

Here’s the deal. There was no food in the house and I needed groceries. I wasn’t in much of a mood to get into it with anyone at the store and simply wanted to get in and out as quickly as possible. While I was waiting in line to give my money to the store for the privilege of being able to buy over priced food items from them, I had had enough and took the mask off to breathe and to clear my steamed up glasses. Not to mention the fact that I was already standing behind the red line, six feet from the next person in front of me, like a good and obedient kindergarten child. Then when I was packing my bags, I did the unthinkable again and just threw the mask into the basket.

I am disappointed with myself because I know better. I have done the research and know that it’s all a scam, but I can’t exactly afford a $400 fine right now and I have to maintain a good profile for my job. You see, that’s where they get you. You either conform or you get yourself in trouble. So where do you draw the line?

I completely agree that we should push back on this and there is not much they can do legally other than issue a ticket, but we who believe it’s all a lie unfortunately are in the minority. So many people are completely frightened that they could get the dreadful virus and die, that they are conforming to every whim about the virus that is coming out of the mouths of the authorities.

This leaves us all in a very bad situation. Not only for us non-believers but most importantly for the 90% who are on the side of the authorities and are being swindled. It’s a no-win situation and we all get dragged down whether we like it or not. Like a millstone around our collective necks.

So am I ready to take one for the team over this? Am I ready to get into an argument and be refused entry into the store and then maybe have to deal with a cop who really doesn’t care what my theory is about it? Trust me, I wish I could, but I have a job that I have to keep and necessities that I need to buy. The last thing I need is being called to the carpet over some ridiculous act of civil disobedience which will get me nowhere except into trouble.

So how will I beat it? Well, for starters, you won’t catch me wearing a mask anywhere outside of a public place and maybe I won’t even bother in a public setting either until someone actually tells me I have to put one on. Maybe just taking little baby steps of defiance is the best way to circumvent this whole thing. Just act dumb as in “oh am I supposed to wear a mask. I didn’t know. I’m from out of town…”.

At the end of the day, what are we going to do? The weight of mass opinion is against us and maybe some snow flakes will wake up but I highly doubt it and even if they did, how much of a difference would that make? Maybe it’s just one of those grin and bear it situations, but we must take any and all opportunities to show it’s BS to the rest of the world and not wear the mask anywhere we do not have to. Take the mask off as you are leaving the store, so the next person coming in knows where you really stand. Even better, also give the store the one-finger salute just to add some icing to the cake.
